Team Event: Participation in Road 2 Victory Davis Phinney Foundation Fundraiser
Event Date: May 31, 2009
Event: Davis Phinney Foundation Road 2 Victory Bicycle Event
Members of the Vic’s Espresso/Peerless Cycling Team will show a strong support by riding in a local cycling fundraising event for Parkinson’s disease. The event called Road 2 Victory will be held in Boulder, Colorado on May 31, 2009. The team is happy to support a good cause and our friend Davis Phinney. Twenty-four team members have registered including three "guests" who will join the team as part of Vic's Espresso/Peerless Cycling Team’s show of support. The team will also donate generously to the event; contributions from the registered riders and an additional contribution from 13 team members unable to attend the ride due to conflicting race schedules or travel, will amount in a total contribution of $2000 to the Davis Phinney Foundation. News: Vic's Espresso Rider Marc Bekoff to speak at the Boulder Bookstore this evening May 13, 2009. Marc Bekoff is a member of the local Boulder, Colorado Vic's Espresso/Peerless Cycling Team. Marc Bekoff is a well-known Animal Behaviorist and has written a new book titled Wild Justice: the Moral lives of Animals. Marc will be speaking about his latest book this evening along with co-author Jessica Pierce. Come listen to Marc share his research and writings beginning at 7:30pm Wednesday, May 13th.

News: New Inductees to the Colorado Running Hall of Fame
On May 13th, the Colorado Running Hall of Fame will be adding seven luminaries in Colorado running to its ranks. One of those honorees will be Sugoi's CEO Stan Mavis. Stan and his wife Bonnie came into town this week and joined the Vic's Espresso cycling team on a training ride. On May 13, 2009 at the Denver Athletic Club, Stan will be inducted along with Alan Culpepper (Marathoner and Miler), Kim Jones (Marathoner), Maureen Custy-Roben (Marathoner and Sport Promoter), Rich Castro (Coach), Benji Durden (Marathoner and Coach), and Creigh Kelly (Race Director).

Race Report: LAVRA Cup Track Time Trials Los Angeles, CA

Vic’s Espresso Riders Steve Worley and Paul Mack traveled to the Velodrome in Los Angeles, California to compete on the indoor track. Undaunted by flu threats Steve and Paul ventured to LA for some early season track racing at the silky smooth 250m, 46 degree bank, Olympic dimension ATD Velodrome at the Home Depot Center. The Saturday racing was in two sessions, open time trials in the morning, and age/category graded omnium mass start races in the afternoon - both hosted by the local association and one day in a series of five for the local enthusiasts. Steve Worley won the 2000m pursuit, with Paul Mack placing in the top ten. Both Steve and Paul placed respectfully in the top third of a 25-member 500m group as well.

BMCT Track riders just completed a 12 week coached program on the new Boulder Indoor Velodrome. What started out to develop safe track riding skills evolved to include several hotly contested track racing events.
Our speed is best demonstrated by the 4 ‘Hot Lap’ records on the board at the track. A “Hot Lap’ is when you wind it up on your own, get to top speed then drop into the sprinters lane at full throttle for an electronically timed lap. Congratulations to the 4 currently on the board: 45-49 John Tally ‘JT’ 8.548; 55-59 Steve Worley 8.879; 60-64 Lars 9.079; 65+ Jim Kinsinger 8.982; Honorable mention to Joe Paulson who held the 45-49 record for several weeks, until JT recently broke it.

Track Record: Boulder Indoor Cycling Record set
Record Date: April 2, 2009
Track Record: On Thursday evening April 2, Jerry ‘the Jet’ Greenleaf set the 50+ record for most laps in an hour, at 312, al la Merckx style (sans aero gear). This was a lap more than the current record for the 40+ as well. “I only wish I had more fast twitch so I could get on the board with a one lap effort!”
How does one set an hour on a fixed gear? Lets look at the numbers:
25.2 MPH (with 624 U turns!) = 40.6 KMPH
47/15 82.4 gear inches (close to a 53/17)
11.5 sec per lap average
312 laps
103 crank rpm average cadence
HR - Ride above your LT for an hour

Rider News: Phinney shatters US pursuit record. US National Team member Taylor Phinney shattered the American national record in the men's 4,000m individual pursuit on Friday at the UCI Track World Cup in Denmark. Track Training: Boulder Indoor Cycling

Training: Last night 10 members of the Vic's Espresso Boulder Master Cycling Team (plus 13 years young Zack Gould) suited up and hit the slopes...the indoor slopes that is. From 5-6PM Garmin Slipstream's Colby Pierce led a one-hour instructional clinic at Colorado's first and only 142-meter velodrome at Boulder Indoor Cycling, located at 3550 Frontier. Boulder, CO.
