Vic’s Espresso/Peerless 2009 Rider Photo and Profile

Paul Mack

DOB: November 1950
Years Racing: 33
Hometown: Carlinville, Illinois
Occupation: Architect
Nickname: Rocketman

When asked what he would be doing if he wasn’t riding his bike, Paul’s quick response was “400 lbs.” Behind the humor is a disciplined rider. Paul won the National Championship in 55-59 Points Race on the track in Colorado Springs in 2006. His other cycling honors are listed below. Paul began bike racing after riding with friends who “would disappear every weekend. I decided to join in.” Now he is happy anywhere on his 2009 Specialized Tarmac road bike when not traveling for work as an architect.

During the winter Paul trains inside with his iPod play list, with alternative rock/punk turned up LOUD, and in good weather time trials up Flagstaff Mountain every third week on Fridays. He adds long intervals up Left Hand Canyon, track workouts, team workouts, and the occasional Vic’s Double Espresso. Paul’s interests in cartooning, landscape design, and gardening balance off his hardcore workouts and racing.

Cycling runs in Paul’s family and he said, “My dad at 86 years rides 10 miles several times a week. My sisters ride as well. My youngest sister, Ann, is the Director of Trailnet (http://www.trailnet.org) in St Louis, MO, a bicyclist and pedestrian advocacy and trail group.”
