Vic’s Espresso/Peerless 2009 Rider Photo and Profile Neal Henderson Race Age: May 28,1973 Years Racing: 20 Hometown: Hershey, PA Occupation: Sport Scientist and Coach As a young boy growing up in Pennsylvania, Neal was motivated to begin racing after watching the Tour du Pont and Tour de Trump stage finishes in his hometown of Hershey, PA. That early awe of cycling has carried him forth and he is now coach to the Vic’s junior team and a number of other teams and individuals. Having recently coached Taylor Phinney to an Individual Pursuit World Track Championship in 2009, he also offers his expertise to many of his Vic’s teammates. Just barely making the cut as a Master’s racer this year, Neal has a 2nd place XTERRA World Championship, 25-29 yrs age group in 1998, and a 3rd place CO State Champ TT - SM3 in 2005 to his name. He was also a Pro triathlete for 4 years and is currently coach to multiple world champions and numerous national and state champions. Neal Henderson is an expert at analyzing and creating training programs with results for athletes. He coaches cyclists, triathletes, runners, hockey players and more. If Neal is your coach, you are a very fortunate athlete. Neal definitely practices what he preaches and says inside in the winter he is “never bored - compu-trainer and BCSM Power Max classes are always fun and great workouts.” At the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, where Neal works, he tests himself along with the rest. He said the “Wingate - 30 seconds of pure power! I'm a born sprinter,” is his favorite. When he does get outside to ride, Neal says he heads up “Hwy 36 to Lefthand Canyon, up to Jamestown, and back down and over the backside of Old Stage.” What fuels him: a double shot espresso macchiato and his Specialized Roubaix SL built up with SRM. What relaxes him: family time, guitar, rock climbing, XC skiing, skateboarding, tele skiing, and snowboarding. Neal is also a father, husband, author, volunteer, and racer.
