Vic’s Espresso/Peerless - Boulder Masters Cycling Team History
Vic’s Espresso/Peerless - Boulder Masters Cycling Team (BMCT) is a Masters age bike racing team based in Boulder, Colorado. We have been riding bikes and racing as a team for twenty-five years.
Team History
The year was 1984 and four friends came together in Boulder, CO under the name Ride em’ Cowboys to form a new cycling team. Its riders raced in categories 1-4 with Veterans (now called Masters). By 1986 the initial team members, Brad Wallace, Marc Bekoff, Lawrence Bosch, and Andy Pruitt, were traveling to races around the United States, Europe and Canada, racing hard and having a lot of fun together. Bob Hughes joined the original four and then Steve Worley joined the team. The team grew in size and achievements from 1987-89, with Randy Gaffney and Paul Mack coming on board.
Racing under the name of the title sponsors and as GS Boulder into the 1990s, the GS Boulder team name was given to another club in the area, and the team eventually took on their current name, Boulder Masters Cycling Team. The team has increased and decreased in size over the years, taking on many more members. Its roster has contained women, including Karen Hornbostle and others. The social camaraderie and fit has always been an important aspect of the team and many of the riders have known each other for over 25 years.
We as a team refer to ourselves as the “Blue Team”.
Sponsorship History
The first title sponsor of the team was Pedal Pushers Cyclery in 1984, along with Univega, followed by Le Peep in 1984, with Pearl Izumi and Celestial Seasonings offering sponsorship through the 1980s and the 1990s. Western Orthopedic and then Boulder Center for Sports Medicine became team sponsors. Peerless Tires continues their Sponsorship of our team. They have been a strong supporter since 2002. Since 1984 Le Peep has provided twenty-five continuous years of sponsorship to our team. Subway was the Title Sponsor from 2005 through 2008, when Vic’s Espresso stepped up to support our team as title sponsor from 2009-2011.
