Vic’s Espresso/Peerless 2009 Rider Photo and Profile

Dean Sandoval

DOB: March 4, 1955
Years Racing: 30
Hometown: Canon City, CO
Occupation: Dentist

While in high school, Dean accompanied a friend to a race his friend had entered at Carter Lake and was inspired. Dean said, “He wore cut-off jeans and took a motorcycle helmet with him! I entered my first race a month later, from Boulder to Nederland, wearing cut-off jeans but at least I had a hairnet helmet.” Thirty years later Dean is still racing, with consecutive wins at the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic road race ('06/'07) to his name. A native of a small town in southern Colorado, Dean’s favorite ride is “State Hwy 50 west to Texas Creek from Canon City and back, along the Arkansas River, on a low traffic day.”

Another rider of a Specialized S-works bike, his drink is a Vic’s double cappuccino, hopefully not before his favorite test at Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, the EKG, “which I passed,” he proudly proclaimed. Dean reads and watches movies to stave off boredom on the indoor trainer and carries his interest of reading into his off the bike time as well, adding mountain biking and hiking when time allows. Now we understand his answer to the question “Who would you be if you could be a super hero for a week?” Dean’s answer was the great mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary.
