Vic’s Espresso/Peerless 2009 Rider Photo and Profile Dan Underkofler DOB: October 6, 1962 Years Racing: 15 Hometown: Vestal, NY Occupation: Mechanical Engineer Nickname: Danimal One day many years ago in Boulder, Colorado, Dan wanted to get some exercise at lunchtime and made the mistake of asking some “racer-types” if he could ride with them. He said, “Of course they dropped/ditched me within a mile, but I came back for my daily beating, and eventually I could cause some trouble myself. I started racing to justify/utilize the training.” He added, “The team aspect of the sport has always been attractive to me.” Dan said his Specialized Tarmac bike is the “best bike ever!” and he keeps it busy on his favorite training ride up Coal Creek Canyon. He said there is nothing that helps to overcome the boredom of training indoors so he just says “no.” When not riding his bike (outside!) you can find Dan pursuing his hobby of building and competitively flying radio-controlled aerobatic airplanes. His current focus is work and getting his 2 sons through high school, college, and into the real world. Dan also enjoys good food, good comedy, and movies.
