Vic’s Espresso/Peerless 2009 Rider Photo and Profile Christy Orris DOB: April 2, 1970 Years Racing: 23 (with some time off) Hometown: Minneapolis, MN Occupation: CEO, ATEK Companies Christy keeps busy raising two spirited young boys, running manufacturing businesses in the United States and Costa Rica, skiing, and exploring the outdoors. She raced Triathlons for years beginning at age 16, but racing was put on hold during the years of education, raising children, and building a business. Christy said, “Now I am looking to get back into a sport competitively.” Her achievements in Triathlon include: voted top female triathlete in Minnesota in 1998, women's overall regional long course triathlon championships in 1998, and qualified for and completed two Hawaii World Championships and one long course world championships. She also raced at Triathlon Worlds in Nice, France. Christy plans to participate in Hill Climbs and Individual and Team Time Trials for Vic’s Espresso/Peerless, riding her new Specialized Transition Pro time trial bike. Christy uses training videos inside when training in winter and said, “It makes the time fly by.” Her favorite ride outside is the St. Vrain – Peak to Peak – Ward loop, after which she may be found sitting outside of Vic’s Espresso in her Specialized Miura Optics Adaptalite sunglasses sipping a Cafe Latte. A coffee, a good meal or a glass of red wine with friends is Christy’s first choice over performance testing at the Boulder Center for Sports Medicine, where she said she has “not found an enjoyable one yet.” When asked what superhero she would be for a week, Christy’s response was, “Bat Girl – I have the costume.” Christy is Board Chair at the University of Colorado Leeds Business School and is very active in the Young Presidents Organization. An accomplished heli-skier, she has earned the distinction of skiing 1 million feet. If she were not riding her bike, Christy said she would be skiing and has enjoyed teaching her two young sons to ski.
