Vic’s Espresso/Peerless 2009 Rider Photo and Profile Barry Messmer DOB: March 15, 1950 Years Racing: 20 Hometown: Red Feather Lakes, CO Occupation: USAF Retired Barry lives in the lands west of Fort Collins, CO, and therefore prefers riding “anywhere long, with hills and mountains.” Barry and his wife, a very “supportive bike wife” he added, own two horses they ride during the summer months. Barry also enjoys hiking and XC skiing. Compelled to race a bike because he enjoyed going fast under his own power, Barry has two Seconds at Masters Nationals (one Road Race, one Crit) and four (“count them, four”) fifth places in Masters Nationals Road Races, and one Fourth. Barry said, “I'd like to win Nationals. It may take just outliving my big competition, but a win is a win.” He is interested in trying Masters Track Nationals this year after learning about track racing this past winter. Barry admits he would be “driving my wife crazy” if he were not racing a bike. He said, “There is no such thing as a fun test!” at the Boulder Center For Sports Medicine. He watches TV or DVDs, or listens to music when training indoors during the winter. Barry’s favorite Vic’s Espresso beverage is a Florentine. His bike is a Specialized Tarmac; his superhero is Superman because as he said, he can “see through things.” Barry does an excellent job coordinating the registration at the annual Rabbit Mountain Time Trial race sponsored by our Vic’s Espresso/Peerless team every year in May.
