Denver Federal Center, SM 55+ Race Report

A win for the 55′ers! Mike Newsome came away with the victory in the 1 hour senior mens 55+ circuit race bright and early on a cool, but nice Saturday morning. With the circuit reported at 4 miles in length, there would be few circuits; 5 to be exact. In the first turn of the race, we lost our eldest statesman of the race, Lars Bosch, when a rider chopped his front wheel and took hom out. No major damage, but he was done for the day. The next laps were attack, counter attack by us (Mike, BIll S., Bill M., Jerry, and Barry) and the Natural Grocers team. No one could get away. With just under 2 to go, Mike rolled off the front. One rider from Natural Grocers joined as did a good, unattached sprinter. Barry and Jerry controlled the front and allowed the small gap Mike and company had to grow, and they were away for good. With less than a lap to go, Jerry went to the front and controlled the pace, keeping it high to reduce the attacks, but not closing the gap to the break. Into the last turn, and our train was swarmed from both sides, which forced Bill S into the wind for the long straightaway, and Bill M to fight for wheels in the sprint. 1st, 6th, 7th, ?, and ? A great result, with good team efforts and tactics.
